Standing on the banks of the rushing River Wharfe, the historic Georgian village of Boston Spa is very well placed and is just three miles from Wetherby 11 miles from the popular spa town of Harrogate and 14 miles from York. Across the arched bridge on the opposite side of the river is the much older village of Thorp Arch.
Boston Spa village centre is within easy walking distance and has a variety of coffee shops, restaurants and takeaways, a post office, library, service station, a butcher, hardware store, off-licence a supermarket and three pubs as well as a range of gift shops and local boutiques. The main high street is lined with Georgian villas and older town houses. The glorious scenery along the banks of the River Wharfe attracts many hikers and day-trippers to the area to enjoy the beautiful countryside and local walks. Scenic drives around the Yorkshire Dales National Park will also reveal some beautiful countryside and wonderful views.
The delightful market town of Wetherby is a short distance from Boston Spa and has a racecourse and the Wetherby Golf Club. Harrogate is nearby with its grand Georgian architecture, high-class shopping and Betty's Tea Rooms. Harrogate is the home of the magnificent RHS Gardens Harlow Carr and for those who enjoy stately homes, nearby Harewood House one of the great treasure houses of England with an excellent "below stairs" tour. For a spa afternoon Harrogate has the Turkish Baths and award-winning Rudding Park Spa and Golf course. The bridge hotel in Wetherby also has a delightful day spa. Just outside of Harrogate is the Great Yorkshire Show in July with a real taste of the countryside. The city of York, voted the best city in the UK to live in, is just 14 miles away and has a wide range of attractions including the National Railway Museum, Clifford’s Tower, The Castle Museum, The Yorkshire Museum and the York Art Gallery. There is also York Racecourse which holds meetings all throughout the summer. York has an assortment of independent shops and restaurants for you to enjoy.
As well as the vibrant cities and towns there are also plenty of local walks in nearby Nidderdale-Area of Outstanding National Beauty and the Yorkshire Dales. A little further afield is the Yorkshire Coast, including Bridlington, Filey, Scarborough and Whitby, home to the picturesque seaside villages of Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick Bay and Staithes. For action packed days out there are the theme parks of Lightwater Valley and Flamingo Land theme park and zoo.
