You will find a famous fish restaurant on the beach, and the ferry across to Tynemouth runs regularly. There are also lots of fish restaurants on North Shields fish quay.
Nearby, Marsden Grotto is built into a rock with a pub and is a quirky place to visit. Bede’s World and Souter lighthouse, as well as the Roman Fort, are all on the doorstep. Travel through the Tyne Tunnel and out into Northumberland for glorious days out with miles of beaches and castles, or head over to Hadrian’s Wall or the National Park.
