Caunes Minervois is a charming village in the south of France, at the foot of the Montagne Noire, famous for its 8th century abbey, its 12th mansions and its quarry of pink marble. In the center of the village are all the shops you will need (bakery, grocery store, supermarket, butcher, local fruit producers, wine cellar, hairdresser, florists ...) as well as bars and excellent restaurants. It is located 20 km from Carcassonne and its medieval city classified as a UNESCO heritage site, 25 km from the village of Minerve, 40 km from Narbonne, its cathedral, its Roman ruins, the Cistercian abbey of Fontfroide and from the Mediterranean Sea. Some of our favorite activities in the region are mountain hikes from our village, walks in vineyards and wine chateaux, bike rides along the Canal du Midi, picnics on its shaded banks, shopping in the colorful fruit and vegetable markets. The Canal du Midi, a World Heritage Site, is 15 minutes from the house. You can rent a boat on the canal from Carcassonne or Homps (located 25 minutes from the house), ride a bike along the towpath or stop for lunch in an open-air cafe along its shores.
On the Montagne Noire side, there is no shortage of hikes and swimming in its various lakes (Pradelles Cabardès lake, for example). One of the deepest chasms in Cabrespine in Europe is a surprising visit on the road to Pradelles Cabardès lake.
There is a swimming pool in Peyriac Minervois, 5 minutes by car from the house and a pond in 20 minutes (Jouarres pond in the town of Pépieux).
