Louvain and Brussels are a fifteen minutes drive away. By public transport you can catch the bus in front of the house to Louvain, Brussels or Brussels Airport. The train station with connections from Brussels to Ghent, Bruges, Antwerp, Paris, London and Amsterdam is at 1.8km.

Welcome to the Van Hamme House anno 1642
This manoir was built by Jan Van Hamme in 1642 and is one of the oldest buildings in the region. With a typical sandstone style – mined a few kilometers away – it was built to keep a family with its entire personnel. As one of the first houses, in the region it had been built on the Roman road between Vilvoorde and Leuven, bringing craftsmen and farmers easily to the city center of Brussels.
Jan Van Hamme was a vicar from the catholic church and as a landlord he was responsible for most of the agriculture in the region. The house was inherited by his son, who kept it for more than a century within the family. During the history of this house, this house has been a horse farm, a sheep farm with more than 90 sheep and a grain & wheat farm until the start of the 20th century. In 1925 it was sold to a rich business man who brought it back to its original state of glory.
This family house was often lived by town notables and aldermen.
The story goes that Ludwig von Beethoven has stayed here (beginning of 19th century) having his grandfather’s roots in this area and as he was married to the landlord’s granddaughter.
In 2014 the house has been renovated entirely, from the attic to the cellar to bring it to 21st century standards both in comfort living as in ecological terms to make it to a highly insulated and warm place to stay.
In 2018 the public cooking studio has been transformed into a short term apartment for families, private persons and business people.
