Situated in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park area, it is a haven for keen walkers with the cottage situated close to the famous Cleveland Way that runs down the cliff side to the sea edge covering 110 miles. The area is renowned for fossil hunting, fishing and interesting rock pools hence the naming of the cottage. Staithes claims a connection with Captain Cook who served his apprenticeship to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire coast, with its quaint cobbled streets, good selection of locally sourced restaurants, quaint tea rooms and art galleries.
The enchanting CBeebies ’Rockpool Tales’ is filmed in Staithes and is a must for all youngsters to visit and explore where all the adventures took place. The historical town of Whitby is 10 miles away and is famous for its connections with Bram Stoker’s book ’Dracula’ and of course delicious fish and chips which you must sample whilst enjoying a great day out.
