Hawthorn Cottage sleeping up to 4 (2 in the bedroom and 2 on the sofa-bed if required). It was originally the farmer's "piggery", housing the family's pigs in the property's heyday as a farm. It is all on ground floor level, which is ideal for people with limited mobility or families with young children/older dogs.
The cottage comprises of a bedroom with a king bed , with a double sofa-bed in the lounge.
It also has a newly installed Wood-burning stove for those cosy evenings in, after a busy day exploring !.
There is also a good sized kitchen diner and the bathroom with bath and overhead electric shower.
The cottage door is also wider to allow easier access.
This cottage can be booked individually or as part of Church Court Cottages for larger groups. The courtyard outside is a great area to enjoy good weather and the village offers great walks.
Bookings can be taken for one or multiple cottages (offers available).
Hawthorn Cottage is available all year round and there is a designated parking bay per cottage.
The cottage contains a Tv, and newly installed heating. It has a fully equipped kitchen including cooker and ceramic hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine, utensils and crockery.

All bed-linen and towels can be included if required.
The beautiful village of Gamblesby is a truly rural hideaway, nestled at the base of the splendid Pennine hills, just 10 miles north east of Penrith and junction 40 of the M6. It takes about 20 minutes to drive to the beautiful lake Ullswater and 45 minutes to Keswick. For those interested in the world heritage site of Hadrian's Wall (and who wouldn't be ?) we are within a pleasant hour's drive of some of the best forts and visitor centres. Perhaps less well known, but definitely worth a visit, is the city of Carlisle with its beautiful sandstone cathedral, castle which imprisoned Mary Queen of Scots, and interesting shops and architecture - all just 40 minutes away. A trip to the border Scottish town of Gretna is only 50 minutes.
But there is no need to travel further afield as there is so much to enjoy in our own lovely Eden Valley, named after the gently winding River Eden which flows from close to North Yorkshire all the way to the Solway Firth. Along its banks you will find some memorable walks, sculpture and good fly fishing. In particular Lacey's Caves just 5 miles from us provides the focus for a fantastic walk for all age groups. The Eden Valley is largely undiscovered by tourists making your walks and drives more relaxed, and shops, tea-shops and visitor attractions more welcoming.
Whatever you like to do during the day, be it cycling, photography, relaxing, or sight-seeing, whether you are with family, friends or colleagues, we are sure we have the perfect location for you to enjoy.
We have several pubs nearby that serve great food and for those bringing their four-legged friends, (many of our local pubs are dog-friendly). There are many local walks for strolling or serious hiking and great scenery for the avid photographer, not to mention the extensive local wildlife, including our own resident hedgehog, barn owl, bats as well as deer, badgers and many more (if you don't mind staying up late to spot them of course !)
Guests are recommended to stay with their own transport (due to the limited village bus service).
Hawthorn Cottage is a red sandstone cottage all on ground floor level, with courtyard area for sitting out, and parking space. It's located in the peaceful village of Gamblesby, within easy reach of the Lake District, Scotland, Pennines, & Carlisle etc.

We look forward to welcoming all our guests and work hard to ensure everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
We hope that people will treat their cottage with love as it is nearly 400 years old (so please excuse the odd cobweb – the spiders around here work very hard :>) !
We also trust that everyone will be considerate to other guests, and keep noise to a minimum - especially in communal areas and after 9pm.
When checking out, we would really appreciate it if guests would be kind enough to leave their cottage clean and tidy ready for our next guests. We have "Check Out Information" as guidance in the back of the Information Folder in the cottage. We appreciate your assistance, as it makes the changeover days run smoothly.
If you need any assistance during your stay, please don't hesitate to ask (we are on hand most of the time), and if there are any problems/breakages etc please let us know as soon as possible so we can arrange repairs/replace items.
