Rothesay is Bute’s main town, and there is an excellent tourist office in the Discovery Centre, which also houses an exhibition about the island. Rothesay is the perfect base for exploring the Isle of Bute and it is also the main ferry port and transport hub for the island.

It was designed by the 1st Marquess of Bute and inspired by the model of an English village. Ettrick Bay is a beautiful broad expanse of sandy beach, about a mile long, with superb views across to the Isle of Arran and the Kintyre Peninsula, while Scalpsie Bay is home to a large colony of seals.
