You can access the centre of Penrith in 7 miles which is a charming market town with cobbled streets and has a selection of independent cafes and shops, and has a bus and train station, Carlisle is just a 19 mile drive boasting a beautiful castle and cathedral. If you are into your road cycling just from the door you can be out onto the best road cycling routes in the country just a couple of mile on to the c2c cycle route. Keswick is just 15 miles away from Ellonby, in Keswick you have a beautiful town with lots of independent shops and eateries, an array of accessible mountains and the stunning derwent water which you can take a steamer boat ride round to soak up the views
