Swn y Cnocell - translated as ‘Sound of the Woodpecker - is a wonderful, spacious and beautifully decorated holiday apartment, that sleeps up to 6 people. Situated at Parc y Faenol (the former Vaynol Park), a grand and walled estate with history dating back to the 16th Century.
The grand and exquisite gated path up to the property is magnificent, and shortly after you pass the gatehouse, you will get to Swn y Cnocell. The gatehouse that you pass on the way to the apartment - now known as Bryntirion Lodge - was built in 1863, and is also now luxury accommodation.
This luxury apartment has three fantastic bedrooms, which sleep up to 6 people. It is ideally suited for a small family or for 3 couples as all rooms have double beds - two kingsize, and one double. The main bedroom, found just off the open plan living room and kitchen area, has an ensuite shower room, its own private seating area and wonderful views of the mountain ranges that lie beyond the estate. The second kingsize bedroom also has similar views, and third bedroom with the double bed benefits from its own private WC. There is also a lovely, spacious family bathroom with a bathtub and shower overhead.
The entrance to the apartment leads to the reception of the open plan living space. The door opens out to welcome you into the main seating and living room area, with the fantastic breakfast bar, and kitchen with island behind. Here, you can really take in the history of the building, with the exposed beams and vaulted ceilings preserved to accentuate the open, roomy feeling.
The lounge area is positioned purposefully to take advantage of the amazing views that surround the estate, and offers comfortable seating for all guests. There is a smart TV and DVD player in the lounge - each bedroom also has its own private TV. The kitchen’s focal point is the large island dining table which is flanked by the lovely modern kitchen. Facilities include electric oven, induction hob, fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, coffee machine, toaster, kettle… basically everything you could need or want for a luxury self-catering stay is provided. For babies in arms, there is the option of a cot and highchair to be provided, and is available on request. There is some lovely outdoor furniture set out in the fully enclosed garden area. Bed linen and towels are supplied, and there is off-road parking for two cars.
Part of the surrounding woodland is owned by the National Trust, which provides the opportunity for some lovely walks down through the woods to the waterside of the Menai Strait looking over towards Anglesey. The estate lies on the north coast of Wales, just outside the small coastal village of Y Felinheli (Port Dinorwic).
Y Felinheli lies between the Royal town of Caernarfon with its impressive castle to the West and the University city of Bangor to the East, Anglesey, Snowdonia and the whole of the North Coast are just a short drive away. Plas Menai National Watersport Centre and Greenwood family Park are both less than ten minutes' drive away, and for keen gardeners Crug Farm Plants is also close by. This is a beautiful spot to base yourself to experience all that North Wales has to offer, from Adventure to relaxation, fine dining to hillwalking, sailing to surfing and all that lies between.
