Nearby Bala offers excellent water sports, including the National White Water Centre and renowned mountain biking at Coed-y-Brenin is only 12 miles away. Situated just five miles from the popular town of Bala, the traditional Welsh village of Llanuwchllyn is located at the southern end of Bala Lake - the largest natural body of water in Wales. With a shop, petrol station and pub serving excellent food, the village is best known as the headquarters of the narrow gauge Bala Lake Railway, offering a nine mile scenic journey along the lakeside. The town of Bala is close by and is renowned as a centre for water sports such as fishing, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and whitewater rafting. Within the town itself, visitors can enjoy a range of interesting shops, inns, restaurants and an historical town walk, whilst the Berwyn mountain range offers great walking, cycling and other outdoor activities within easy reach.
