The pretty picturesque village of Caldbeck, is an area not to be missed with easy, relaxing walks along the river with its cafes, craft shops and working water mill. Set just north of the Lake District, be sure to take advantage of this beautiful National Park; head to Keswick where you can explore Keswick Musuem, Puzzling Place, and the Pencil Museum, as well as Hope Park and the Theatre by the Lake which are ideal for warmer evenings. Venture further south along Ullswater, visit Aira Force Waterfall situated within a picturesque valley or put on your walking shoes and hike to the summit of Place Fell to enjoy remarkable views of the Lake District. Alternatively, head to the historic city of Carlisle with its Cathedral, Castle and Museum, heading East from Carlisle will take you to Hadrian's Wall, North you'll cross the border into Scotland, West will take you to the seaside, North, South, East or West - an abundance of choices are yours! Dalston is a settlement located in Cumbria's Carlisle district, which was formerly a part of Cumberland. The red sandstone church of St. Michael, which dates to the 13th century, is located in the town centre, and Dalston Hall is a magnificent Grade II listed structure with character and landscape gardens that is frequently used as a wedding location. The palace of the Bishops of Carlisle, Rose Castle, is about two miles south of Dalston; it is closed to the public but may be seen from the road. With two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, one World Heritage Site, numerous pedestrianised commercial areas, award-winning malls, vibrant farmer's markets, and a classic Victorian indoor market, Carlisle, a 2000-year-old city, is reachable in four and a half miles. Dalston is an excellent starting point for outdoor enthusiasts because it also offers easy access to the stunning North Pennines AONB and the Lake District National Park.
