A visit to the historical Gloucester Cathedral is a necessity, showcasing an enchanting blend of Norman to Perpendicular, with the ruins of the Blackfriars Priory being well worth admiring. Take a trip to May Hill, this attractive area of bracken and woodland is still grazed by the commoners' ponies, pigs and occasionally sheep, there are beautiful, panoramic views from the top of the hill encompassing the Malvern Hills, the Cotswold HIlls, the Severn Vale, the Forest of Dean, Herefordshire and the Black Mountains beyond. Further afield, Robinswood Hill Country Park, perfect for peaceful walks amidst nature, or venture a little further afield to Haresfield Beacon and Standish Wood, under the care of the National Trust, providing tranquil ambles through mature woodlands and captivating views of the Severn Vale. Huntley is a small village situated West of Gloucester and North of the Forest of Dean. Within the village you will find an 19th century church, a village hall, a pub, butchers and a SPAR. Here, you will also find Huntley Quarry, which houses a volcaniclastic suite of rocks, which will become the first geology reserve in the county. Within 8.5 miles is the city of Gloucester, where you will find a larger selection of amenities and attractions including The Docks, the St Oswald's Priory, and the 11th century Cathedral with the tomb of King Edward II. Alternatively, visit the Wye Valley and the Forest Dean, where you will find opportunities for walking, cycling, fishing, and following sculpture trails. Huntley is an excellent base for exploring this part of the country.
