Positive: It was a beautiful location although disappointed that the pub had closed down so no meal. The cottage was very well fitted out and attractively decorated as pictured, the beds and sofa were comfortable. ( I marked the comfort down because the windows couldn’t be opened, this rendered the atmosphere stifling, airless and very uncomfortable) Bedding and towels were clean and the pressure was good in the shower. Such a shame it had been let down.

Negative: The windows could not be opened and there was no form of ventilation to compensate, therefore it was airless, stuffy and very difficult to sleep. There was a short hair in the bath under the tap so I showered but was put off from bathing. There were watermarks on each bedside table, slight black mould behind the sink taps in the bathroom and a pervading smell of air freshener throughout, there’s no substitute for fresh air, this didn’t help the atmosphere. Corners were cut on the quality of toilet roll, kitchen roll, washing up liquid and the cake (not sure if the cheap supermarket loaf cake was left as an alternative welcome basket or by a previous guest) All my previous stays at around the same price point left welcome baskets of wine and a few good quality basics including a welcome note. So a loaf of cheap cake was disappointing, as were the flowers which had dropped half their petals before we arrived (also possibly left by a previous guest?) The most disappointing of all is that it is a lovely cottage true to the photographs in a beautiful area, it has been well planned in every area except for these shortfalls which are easy and affordable to rectify. It was such a shame that these relatively small but important aspects had been neglected. In addition the small dank and overlooked seating area to the back was un-inviting, there’s room for a garden bench in the front, it would have been nice to sit and enjoy the view. Everything else was lovely so I hope the owner finds this constructive criticism useful. I wouldn’t stay again as it is, but it would be exceptional if these problems were rectified.
