Quirky historic townhouse with stunning views of the surrounding scenery | House in Great Torrington
5 Bedroom House in Torrington, Great Torrington
Grade 2 listed terrace house on the main street of village like historic town, close to local shops and attractions including a swimming pool and arts centre. The town is nestled on a hill with 360 degree views of the North Devon countryside surrounding it. The House of Black & White is a great base to explore North Devon’s wonderful beaches, rugged Moors and breath-taking countryside. The historic market town of Great Torrington in my opinion is a little gem of a town full of friendly people. I have lovingly restored this incredible old house to create a friendly and comfortable home from home for friends and families to gather for parties and special celebrations.
The house was refurbished with entertaining and enjoyment in mind its huge kitchen dining table is perfect for that purpose. In this home, you will find a wealth of original features and modern amenities, providing you the best of both worlds. Exquisite details such as original Oak floor boards, inglenook fireplaces with Apotropaic marks and exposed oak beams of the 16th century are complemented by later Georgian touches like wall panelling and fire surrounds. The wonderful garden is enjoyable in both summer and autumn. Toast marshmallows on the fire bowl at the end of the garden under the canopy of leaves while stargazing or watching bats circle catching insects. Or feast on BBQ food on the patio while listening to the birds singing in the sunshine which the garden gets a lot of as it’s South facing.
On the doorstep are The Torrington commons, enjoy ancient woods, wild flower meadows and the beautiful river Torridge where you might just see Kingfishers or Otters. From Torrington commons join The Tarka Trail which is one of the country's longest continuous traffic-free walking and cycling paths. Great Torrington town centre is just outside the door and has a few local shops, several pubs, an arts centre, museum, Dartington crystal, a swimming pool. A short drive away are many beaches, Rosemoor Gardens, Hartland Abbey, Clovelly, Arlington Court, The Milky Way and The big sheep to name a few.
